it was a glorious Pacific Northwest day, a complete deluge of rain. The Stilly and all of it’s tributaries was near flood stage. And I was out in it, installing gutters. Fitting. I had to dig a channel for the water that accumulated in the hog pen, quite the civil engineering project.stillyWe transferred the scotch strong ale today, It’s looking good, rich and very dark. It’ll be a good month before its ready, i want to put it into 22’s. We will probably brew the IPA again tomorrow.

The day started out wrong. My flight to Minneapolis was two hours late, but when the flight did take off it was the best flight I have ever been on. I was one row behind first class, so there was leg room. I got served with beers twice. And the coup d’ grace…the chair next to me was empty! The strata on a airplane run horizontally from the front to the back, the front leg room, blah, blah, and then slowly, gradually by the time you get to the back you knees are in your chest.

180px-ChildOfGodAlso had time to finish reading, “Child of God”, by Cormac McCarthy. More I read of him, the better I understand the way he uses the language. The three books I read all seem to be experiments in the use and cadence of language. When you stick with it, you get rewarded, things you had no idea were happening suddenly appear, vividly. And when you take a minute to think how things happen, you begin to see that they were happening all along. He’s so damn subtle.
